The Metal Handicrafts Service Centre, Moradabad, is an institution established by Government of India with Financial and Technical Assistance of United Nations Development Program [ UNDP ] and Government of Uttar Pradesh as well and is functioning under the Administrative Control of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India being Chairperson .The Project of MHSC was approved by Department of Science & Technology and Planning Commission ,now its NITI Aayog [ UNDP – IND / SS / 026 ] and Implemented by Standing Finance Committee of Department of Textiles , Ministry of Commerce , Government of India in March 1983. Foundation stone of this Centre had laid by the then Hon’ble Minister of Commerce, Government of India Shri Vishv Nath Pratap Singh in presence of Hon’ble State Minister, Government of Uttar Pradesh Shri Hafiz Mohmad Siddique on dated 24 March 1984.

The policy affairs of the Institute are managed by a Government Council with Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), New Delhi being its Chairman and District Magistrate Moradabad is Vice Chairperson of The Institute .Day to day affairs of the Institute are regulation looked after by Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of the District Magistrate Moradabad.

Metal Handicrafts Service Centre has been established with all advance technology and facilities in metal coating/finishing, Research Testing & Calibration Laboratory (RTCL). The Centre is also involved with training to artisans for advance tools and technique. With a motive to develop innovative designs in metal handicrafts it conducts design and technical development workshops at various artisans cluster in the country and It is developing a design bank at its Centre at Moradabad for the benefit of exporters and artisans. The Common facilities of the Centre are under implementation of ISO 9001:2000. The RTC Laboratory of the Centre is Accredited with National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)[ A Constituent Board of Quality Council of India , Under Ministry of Commerce and Industry , Government of India] as per ISO / IEC : 17025:2017 Vide Certificate No. TC – 6683 .

The Centre is a National Level Institution for Testing, Inspection, Metal Finishing and Allied Process of Metal Art Wares and providing necessary up gradation of Skills and Technique and Sophisticated Service to the exporters, manufacturers and artisans situated in and around Moradabad.
